Sheriff Harry Lee

Sheriff Harry Lee was revered not only in Jefferson Parish, and the New Orleans area, but throughout the United States and beyond.  He was a "no- nonsense, tell it like it is” Sheriff, with a heart of gold.  Harry was born in New Orleans on August 27, 1932 in the back room of his family laundry business. With all the achievements in his life, he never forgot his roots.

Sheriff Lee was a very giving and generous man. He would help those in need as well as those he wanted to give something special too. He was a Champion of Holy Guardian Angels Church and The Gumbo Festival.

He was King Creole Gumbo X in 1983. He also loved to take our Senior Citizen’s Group on outings and always gave of himself with a smile.

When he passed away on October 1, 2007; it was a sad day for the whole Parish of Jefferson and the Parish Family of Holy Guardian Angels Church. He will be sorely missed by us all.

During his memorial service a crowd of about 700 listened to various religious leaders speak about Sheriff Lee. Monsignor J. Anthony Luminais of Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church said, "Every time that you talk about him, you'll be keeping him alive, spiritually, in your heart."

It must have been a glorious day in heaven when on October 1, 2007 the self proclaimed “King of Jefferson Parish” met face to face with the “King of Heaven.”

God Bless you Harry Lee… may you rest in peace.

We also send our deepest sympathy and love to his family, Mrs. Lai Lee, his daughter Cynthia Lee Sheng and the entire Lee family.
