Liturgical Ministries

Lectors  The most important word that we speak is the Word of God. Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the assembly at Mass. Lectors play an important role in the Liturgy of the Word. Effectively proclaiming Scripture requires time for prayer, study and practice. Ideally, a lector should have some public speaking experience since it requires standing in front of the assembly and articulating the readings distinctly and clearly. To do this effectively, the lector must have a strong, personal faith and be able to reveal that faith through simple, natural delivery of the Word. Lectors read at daily Mass, Sundays and feast days.

Eucharistic Ministers  Eucharistic Ministers play an important role at Mass by helping in the distribution of the sacred Body and Blood of Christ. Eucharistic Ministers are assigned either to distribute the Eucharistic bread or cup at Mass. In preparation for this ministry, there is a mandatory training session. Eucharistic Ministers are mandated for a three-year period with renewal available.

Altar Servers  The Ministry of Altar Server is one of our oldest ministries in the Church, but yet a ministry performed by some of our youngest members. The responsibilities entrusted to these young people are significant to our celebration of the Eucharist, not just on Sundays but every day of the week and also at weddings and funerals. Without Altar Servers, our liturgies would be less celebratory and solemn. These Ministers of the Altar provide dignity and flow to our celebration of each Mass. Someone wanting to be an Altar Server must be in the fifth grade or older, and attend the Faith Formation program. Adults are also welcome to be trained as acolytes.

Ushers  The ushers are present at weekend and Holy Day Masses and other services when requested by the Pastor. They welcome and assist all who attend. They are responsible for collecting the financial contributions from the congregation. To volunteer, speak to any usher at any weekend mass.

Liturgical Committee  A team of parish members comes together six times per year to share ideas and explore ways to celebrate and improve the liturgy at Holy Guardian Angels Parish. We first understand that the basis for which we celebrate is the Paschal Mystery, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We combine the resources or our music, presiders, art, environment and the diversity of the parish community with the splendor or liturgy, rites of the church and the guidelines of the Archdiocese to establish a direction for liturgy and to review and plan regular, seasonal and special liturgical celebrations. Liturgy is celebrating God's love for all members of the community.
